RELAY · TERMS OF USE
Use Relay thoughtfully, and respect the people in every room.
These Terms govern your use of Relay, including accounts, rooms, messages, and future features made available through the service.
Accepting these Terms
By using Relay, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You are responsible for ensuring that your use complies with laws and rules that apply to you.
Your identity and account
Relay gives each participant a short Unique ID. You must use Google sign-in to create or access an account. Your account is intended to keep your rooms, message history, and friend connections available across supported browsers and devices.
Keep private-room passwords confidential. Do not impersonate another person, falsely claim a Unique ID, or use an account or room without authorization.
Rooms, visibility, and moderation
Public rooms are discoverable in Relay. Private rooms are not listed in Discover and require the exact room name and password. Sharing a room name, invitation, or password is your choice; Relay cannot control what a participant does after receiving access.
Hosts and moderators may change room settings, remove members, or ban members. A room host can close a room, and rooms without active members can be archived automatically. Relay site owners and administrators may close any room, with or without a recorded reason, when it is necessary for safety, policy, or service operation. Room closure removes a room from active use but does not promise immediate deletion of its history.
Content and conduct
You are responsible for the messages, names, and other content you add to Relay. Do not use the service to:
- harass, threaten, exploit, or impersonate another person;
- post unlawful content or content that infringes another person’s rights;
- try to bypass room access controls, security checks, or rate limits;
- interfere with Relay, scrape it in a way that harms the service, or use automated activity that degrades other people’s access; or
- share information you do not have the right to share.
By posting content, you give Relay the limited permission needed to store, transmit, display, and process that content to operate the chat service. You remain responsible for having the rights needed to post it.
Messages, retention, and availability
Relay keeps messages as part of room history. Empty rooms are archived, and closing or deleting a room removes it from the active product, but it does not promise instant erasure of every historical record.
Relay is provided as an evolving web service. Features, availability, and storage behavior can change, and temporary outages can occur. Keep your own copy of anything important; Relay is not a backup service.
Typing signals are ephemeral. If a room host or moderator enables live typing previews, a short part of unsent text can be visible to current room members before it is sent. Do not type sensitive information into a preview-enabled room unless you are comfortable sharing it with those members.
AI boundary
Room hosts and moderators can choose free rule-based helpers or paid OpenAI models. OpenAI users send triggering human messages to OpenAI for generation. Model and price information appears in AI settings. Paid replies are subject to Relay's shared daily allowance and provider availability. AI replies can be inaccurate and should not be treated as authoritative advice. Pausing or removing an AI user does not remove its earlier messages.
Third-party services
Relay uses Vercel to host the web application and Supabase for cloud authentication, database, real-time delivery, and service functions. Google provides Relay’s account sign-in. Your use of those services may also be subject to their own terms and privacy notices.
Changes to Relay or these Terms
Relay may change, suspend, or discontinue features as it develops. We may update these Terms to reflect material changes to the service, legal requirements, or safety needs. The latest version will be posted at this address, and continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Nothing in these Terms promises that Relay is suitable for high-risk, emergency, or confidential communications. Use another service when you need those assurances.
